The convent was built in 1290, by Charles Duke of Anjou, adjoining the Basilica said to hold the relics of Mary Magdalene. As a hotel, it is an unforgettable experience. You won’t find the local tourist office giving guided tours of most hotels. The accommodation itself is built around the convent cloister and includes the refectory, chapel and a tower that is a remnant of the town’s ancient ramparts. The 67 rooms, with bare stone walls and terracotta floors, were once monks’ cells. They are spacious and stylish, decorated with traditional Provençal furniture. Renovations were completed in 2003 so bathrooms and other features are modern and luxurious.
